Open Graph image generator

A page with no og:image gets a blank card in every feed that links it. This draws one from the title you already wrote, at the size each platform expects, and hands you the meta tags to paste beside it.

Why 1200 × 630

It is the size Facebook, LinkedIn and X all crop least aggressively, and the one that keeps text readable when the card is shown at a third of that width in a timeline. A square is better for Instagram and for chat apps that show a small thumbnail.

The image must be reachable

Crawlers fetch og:image over the public internet before they render anything, so a relative path, a staging domain or a file behind a login all produce a blank card. Use a full https URL on the live site.

Feeds cache hard

Once a platform has fetched a card it will keep showing the old one for days. Facebook's sharing debugger and LinkedIn's post inspector both force a refetch; X clears on its own schedule, so change the file name if you need it now.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Open Graph image be?
1200 by 630 pixels. It is the size Facebook, LinkedIn and X crop least aggressively, and the one that stays readable at a third of that width in a timeline. A square suits chat apps that show a small thumbnail.
Why is my social preview image not showing?
Three usual causes: the og:image URL is relative rather than absolute, the file sits behind a login or on a staging domain the crawler cannot reach, or the platform has cached an older card. Facebook's sharing debugger and LinkedIn's post inspector both force a refetch.
Do I need a separate image for X or Twitter?
No. With twitter:card set to summary_large_image, X uses the Open Graph image. A separate twitter:image is only needed when you want a different picture there.
Does an Open Graph image help SEO?
Not directly - it is not a ranking signal. It raises the click-through rate of every link to the page from social and chat apps, which is why a blank card is worth fixing even though a search engine does not read it.
